Invercargill Central City Revitalisation Design
Over the decades the city centre has evolved from being a community focused meeting place where business were proud to be established to a predominantly retail based centre, which now has to compete with online shopping and big box retail. In addition to this, poor redevelopment economics and earthquake strengthening requirements have made the situation worse for retailers and many of them have left, leaving vacant store fronts and little hope of finding new tenants.
Over recent years the Invercargill City Council has put revitalisation of the central city on the top of its agenda and brought on board Pocock Design Environment to address a number of key issues which include enhancing the public realm, ensuring the future development economics of the CBD and diversifying uses within the CBD to bring back a once vibrant CBD. |
