Kokohuia Reserve

The Kokohuia Reserve project is situated on a 114-hectare site within the urban boundary of Whanganui. This on-going project stemmed out of an initial scope of works that looked at the flooding issues within this area and is being developed over a number of stages due to the complexity of the site. Solving the stormwater issues has been a key component for this project. However, in addition to this developing the old landfill site will provide a number of additional benefits, which include: improving the open space amenities for the surrounding community, providing an economic driver for the area, improving the natural environment, restoring cultural values and reconnecting the ecosystem. As the project lead Pocock Design Environment has demonstrated how landscape architects can effectively merge hydrological management with good design.
