Mt John Observatory
Craig Pocock was approached by Earth and Sky from the Mount John Observatory in Tekapo to review development options for a key site on the Tekapo lake edge. The site was a key site in the Tekapo township master plan but more importantly the site had an expansive view across one of New Zealand most visited natural sites. Craig Pocock helped Earth and Sky to create a development approach that leveraged the key values of the site to increase their chance to get investment for the new earth and sky visitor centre. The approach included writing an architectural design competition brief to encourage the best architects in NZ to development visions and concept drawings for this world class site. Craig managed the design competition and helped the clients assess the competition entries. The winning entry, architects and earth and sky used the vision to gain funding for the visitor centre development.
